3 SIGNS THAT YOUR HOME NEEDS A PLUMBING INSPECTION IMMEDIATELY

There are nearly 75,000 plumbers in Canada, and this number is expected to grow in the coming years. This is good news because every house should undergo a plumbing inspection once in a while.

If your plumbing is not inspected and otherwise maintained, it will lead to serious issues. It's always better to get an inspection now than to pay for repairs or even replacements later.

How do you know when your plumbing is experiencing problems? What signs should you look for to know if you need an inspection?

We'll answer those questions and more in the paragraphs below.

1. Slow Draining

We've all figured out by now that drains are designed to transport water away once we're done using it. When our plumbing is working, this water is carried into the sewer.

From there, it goes to water treatment plants, where it's purified and dropped into nearby bodies of water, which we'll draw water from again when the need arises.

However, sometimes this process doesn't work the way it's supposed to. If you notice that your water isn't going down very quickly, it's a good sign that there's a problem.

There could be a few issues going on, and you can help narrow it down by taking notice of where the issues are occurring. If only one of your appliances is acting up, the issue is likely with that particular appliance.

However, if all of your appliances are draining slowly, the issue may be with the sewer system.

2. Strange Smells

It might be a little uncomfortable to talk about smells when it comes to plumbing, but it can be important. We're not talking about the unfortunate bathroom smells that we often have to deal with. Certain smells can signal disaster.

For instance, if you start to notice a musty odour or the lingering scent of propane as if from a stove, you should call a plumber. We'd recommend calling them as soon as possible because gas smells can be a sign of an emergency.

If your appliances smell of sewage, it may be a sign that your sewer is acting up.

3. Low or Changing Water Levels

The modern water system is designed to have a similar level of water that keeps the home supplied without causing flooding or overflow. For this system to work, the water flow needs to be consistent.

If your water flow is not consistent, it could mean damaged sewer lines. If your water is consistent but low, it could be the result of leaky pipes or hard water buildup. Hard water means that water has significant amounts of magnesium and calcium dissolved in it. As the water flows, these particles can run into each other. If this happens enough, it causes a clog.
